Contact lenses
Rigid gas permeable contact lenses are custom made for your eyes and continue to have a place within the contact lens market. Even though they are less comfortable than soft lenses, they may well give superior vision overall. Patients requiring these lenses sometimes have irregular corneas or “keratoconus.” Only a couple of years ago gas permeable lenses or a corneal transplant were the only option available to them. One of the most exciting recent developments in soft contact lenses is the advent of lenses which can give excellent vision for these patients.
The majority of our patients who wear contact lenses most days pay by convenient, monthly standing order. The charge includes lenses and solutions plus all your professional check-ups and after-care as well as entitling you to 20% off a pair of glasses, should you wish to have a back-up. You can, of course, pay for lenses when you need them but don't forget that regular contact lens check ups are essential for monitoring the health and comfort of your eyes.
Teenagers and contact lenses
Do you have a teenager who needs eyesight correction and is unwilling to wear glasses or one who wants to pursue a particular activity or sport for which glasses are not appropriate? We are happy to explore the option of contact lenses for young people over the age of eleven, in agreement with the parent or guardian. Recent research [1] found that children's self perception of their physical appearance, social acceptance and athletic competence all improved with contact lens wear.
